TASTY TUESDAY - 37 CALORIE BROWNIES

No I did not make a typing error - these brownies really are only 37 calories.  To good to be true you say (well I did)? These easy brownies are really good and are such a great way to quell that gnawing sweet tooth!!
All you need are a few simple ingredients and a food processor or a good blender.  I used my food processor. I added two ingredients not in the recipe...1/4 cup of chocolate chips and 1/4 tsp of espresso powder (you don't taste the coffee but it really enhances the chocolate flavor).
After processing all the ingredients pour into a greased (I used Pam spray thus cutting down a little more on calories) 8x8 pan.
Let them cool completely, then cut them into squares - the recipe calls for them to be cut into 9 large brownies and that is what the 37 calories is based on and if you add the chocolate chips then the calorie count is 65 calories but I cut mine into 16 pieces. Oh and the espresso powder has only 5 calories in a tsp and I used 1/4 so I call that negligible - no count!
Now do these taste like homemade big fat chewy brownies - no they do not but they are really good. Hubby and I think they are best right out of the freezer, really cold and we sometimes add a dollop of reduced fat whipped cream on the top - just a bit. So if  you really love chocolate and are trying to cut sugar out of your diet these are for you.

Recipe

Preheat oven to 400°

Ingredients

3/4 cup non-fat Greek yogurt - must be Greek
1/4 cup skim milk
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup Old Fashioned Rolled Oats (NOT instant, etc)
1/2 cup Truvia baking blend - the kind that pours
1 egg, room temp
1 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt

Spray an 8x8 baking pan with cooking spray. Combine all the ingredients into a food processor and process for about 1-2 minutes until smooth.  Pour into the prepared pan (if you are using the optional chips now is the time to sprinkle them on top of the batter) and bake for about 15 minutes (check after 12).  Allow to cool completely before cutting.

Enjoy!!!

Recipe adapted from Broma Bakery

A note about the calorie count - Broma Bakery stands behind their 37 calories (without the chocolate chips) and that is cutting the pan into 9 large brownies.  Calorie counting can be a tricky thing as when I am trying to figure out calorie counts from different sites I often get different information.  When possible I take the calorie count off the carton (as in the oatmeal, cocoa, etc.) this often means you have to convert from grams.  I am comfortable saying that with the inclusion of the chocolate chips at the end, my product is 47 calories but I cut mine into 16 pieces.  We like these best out of the freezer (they defrost very quickly) & just a little dab of reduced calorie whipped cream. They taste very rich and very chocolaty.  I think I will keep these around for those times when you really need something sweet.

Thank you for stopping by.
