ST. PADDY'S TABLESCAPE

Even though I am not Irish (that I know of) we always celebrate and decorate for St. Paddy's Day and this year was no exception.

I just love, love, love these wicker placemats for spring and summer as I think they add just the right amount of texture to the tablescape. Of course when I found these salad/dessert plates (waited for them to go on sale) I knew they would be perfect for my St. Paddy's Day table.
Simple lighting just adds so much and now that lanterns are so easy to find and so popular they help make things simple. I like to use the white one for many things and therefore I do not put anything permanent on it in the way of decoration - I just put a piece of florist oasis inside the handle and then add my decoration - easy to take apart and use for another occasion and that way you only need one lantern (well, only one white one).
One of the handy things about using the buffalo print gingham tablecloth (besides the way it looks) is that it is a perfect template for setting your table.  I don't go Downtown Abbey use a ruler crazy, but this grid pattern makes setting the table a snap.  I love this darling dot flatware - the most adorable couple you will ever meet gave me a generous GC at Christmas (thank you again Gina & Dustin) and it's like I told them in my thank-you note I used the card and stretched those dollars six ways and back again and when I saw this flatware I knew it was mine. I only have service for four but am on the lookout for more - the thrill of the hunt!
Thought this might come in handy - what it does not show is that after the sherry glass would come the champagne and then juice.  I'm thinking for me this is good but honestly the most glasses we ever have on the table will be water goblet, wine and champagne (or in our case most of the time sparkling cider). This certainly shows a really formal place setting and not the more casual setting that most of us have. It reminds me of a story about my mother who insisted that she give me a dozen shellfish forks - I think I sold them at a garage sale eventually along with the peanut butter making machine she gave me, Skippy was good enough.
A few lucky Irish coins strewn across the table......
I like the spring look of the table, now off to figure out the menu - that is besides our traditional New England Boiled Dinner.
