One more item for the Easter baskets. My three little bunnies that live near me love strawberries so I thought it would be fun to make some strawberry flavored rice cereal treats on a stick.
Three ingredients, that's pretty easy, yes?? A word about Fluff. It is simply the BEST marshmallow creme. It is not available to me so I ordered from their website. I don't know if it is all the time but when I ordered it was "Free Ship." They have other flavors too and of course the regular marshmallow is wonderful. A little tid-bit of information about Fluff - it is the only brand name food on the International Space Station. They make Fluffanutter sandwiches - white bread, marshmallow fluff and peanut butter! Don't knock it until you have tried it!
Recipe
3 Tbs Butter
1 Jar Strawberry Fluff
5 cups crispy rice cereal
Place the contents of the Fluff jar in a 2 1/2 quart microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high 4 minutes, stirring every at 1 minute intervals (based on 700 watt microwave), Stir in the cereal and press evenly into a 13x9 inch pan (buttered or cooking spray), tamp down the mixture with a piece of foil or parchment paper to make it even.
I put mine in a square pan and put in what I thought was the right amount of thickness for the "lollipops," and then put the rest in another prepared square.
I just let it dry for about 20 minutes and then cut out my "eggs" using an egg cookie cutter.
I placed them on a Silpat mat and let them dry overnight.
Make a batch of royal icing and using a #2 plain round tip just free-style your decorations on the "eggs."
Royal Icing Recipe
3 tablespoons meringue powder
4 cups of confectioners' sugar (sifted)
6 tablespoons warm water
Sift the powdered sugar and meringue powder into the metal bowl of your mixer and then turn on the mixer (low) and add the water, if need be add a little more. Whip with the whipping attachment of your mixer until smooth and fluffy.
Makes - 3 cups of icing
I cut this recipe in half and left the leftover frosting in the tube and put into a plastic bag and into the fridge as I want to use it on another project later today. If you make the full recipe you will have way to much frosting for a dozen little "eggs."
Let them sit until the royal icing is dry and you are ready to package. I just did random decorations except I did put the initials of my little rabbits on one of the "eggs."
A standard lollipop stick is too thick for these so I just cut down a bamboo skewer and it worked fine. As you can see the decorations are not perfect but you are working on a bumpy cereal surface not a smooth cake or cookie surface and I think they turned out just fine. Remember to be careful when you insert the bamboo skewer. I was going to use the Wilton plastic bags designed for small items like these but the "eggs" were just a tad too big so I just used plastic wrap and tied with a pretty ribbon and it worked just fine.
All done, ready for the baskets!

Simple craft post today. How to make cute Easter lanterns using water slide decals. Easy and a good way to make something unique - the number of things you can make with these decals is only limited by your imagination.
I started out with two lanterns, clipped a little faux boxwood and pulled a couple of ribbon rolls out of my ribbon stash.
Went to The Graphic's Fairy and found these cute chicks and printed them out on water slide decal paper, followed the directions that come with the label. I tried a couple of colors of candles and decided that the vanilla color worked best.
Here they are! So easy and I love the way they came out - remember to be careful with the ribbon as you want to keep it away from the flame - an Easter fire would not be good.

I woke up this morning thinking it was time to start making some Easter basket items. Bunny Bait is one of those things that has been around for a long time and there are many different recipes. I will share mine which is so simple and really quite good.
Recipe
2 Cups Rice Chex
2 Cups pretzel sticks
1/2 jar of pastel colored sprinkles
1 bag marshmallow flavored Wilton's Candy Melts
1 large package of the pastel colored M&M's
1 package microwave popcorn (light or no butter) popcorn
Pop the corn (making sure you have eliminated any un-popped kernels) then mix the popcorn, pretzels and the Chex cereal onto a Silpat lined cookie sheet. Mix it all around until you get good distribution.
I find it easier to put the ingredients into a big bowl and then you drizzle the marshmallow white chocolate over the mix and gently mix with a spoon (plastic works best). After it is mixed, gently spread out on the Silpat lined cookie sheet.
At this time sprinkle on the half jar of pastel sprinkles. If you were to put them on during the time you pour on the chocolate they would become incorporated into the mix and not be colorful. After it has completely cooled then I put it back into the big bowl and add the bag of M&M's and gently mix.
I wanted to be able to put either name or initial on each bag so my "Bunnies" would know which was theirs. I found this adorable bunny graphic over at The Graphic's Fairy and just brought it into my draw program, sized and added the initial. I printed the graphics out onto a full label sheet and then cut around the bunny, put on a clear cellophane bag. Ready for the Easter baskets!
